Breaking News: Mommy Blogger Credits Salt Reduction in Casserole Recipe for Sudden Surge of Men Viewers Aged 18-60

When Cassie Johnson started her new food blog it did not go as expected.
“I guess I thought that all you had to do was put your recipes out there and people would search for them. Boy was I wrong!”
But then I started tinkering with my casserole recipe. I have always liked a good amount of salt in my Sausage Cheese Breakfast Surprise. The original recipe called for 2 teaspoons of salt, which in hindsight seems like a lot, but at the time I was using a kosher sea salt which has a coarser grain that regular table salt. It never occurred to me that others making this recipe would use Morton’s or some other table salt.”
What surprised her the most is the number of men interested in her casserole recipe.
“Once I changed the salt content in my recipe, suddenly there was this surge of interest from men wanting to make my casserole. My comments lit up like a Christmas tree and it became my most viewed recipe. When I looked at the analytics it became clear that most of the new activity was from men. Honestly I wish I knew what was driving this since I always assumed men like more salt.”
As of July 13th her recipe has received over 1 million views, most of which happened after uploading the new recipe.
“I think it is probably the texture that pops the most with the reduced salt. I also started cooking it in a glass container instead of metal. It really helps with the presentation. With a metal pan all people see is the top of the casserole. But I think that adding a little less salt is still the primary driver of increased engagement.”
